A Note From Our CEO, Nigel Eccles
Hello,
I wanted to take a moment to update you about the critical test our company and our community face this week. The New York State Legislature is considering a bill to affirm the legality of online fantasy sports. If passed, this measure would provide for sensible regulations like requiring DFS companies to register with the state, pay our fair share in taxes and verify that our users are over the age of 18.
We believe passing this law is the right thing for our community, our company and most importantly, the people of New York state. An overwhelming number of New Yorkers agree with this position — 70% in fact, according to a recent survey said they favor sensible regulation of our industry.
Here’s the challenge. A number of big casinos have banded together to prevent our bill from passing. Their reason for opposing us is pretty simple and it boils down to greed. They are demanding that fantasy sports only be allowed to operate within the confines of their brick and mortar casinos. That is not who we are. It’s not why I started FanDuel. And I can promise you that if they get their way it will mean the end of daily fantasy sports as we know it.
Here’s the good news. We have something the casinos don’t – a community of millions of fantasy players around the state committed to preserving the games that we love to play. But that only matters if your legislator in Albany knows where you stand. We’ve made it really easy — simply click here and send them a note. It only takes a few seconds, and it really will make a difference.
Thanks again for continuing to support FanDuel as we fight to protect fantasy sports in New York.
Best wishes,
Nigel Eccles
