FanDuel to provide sports wagering services at The Greenbrier Casino Club
The Greenbrier and FanDuel have finalized an agreement for FanDuel to provide a retail, online and mobile sports wagering service at The Greenbrier.
On March 9, 2018, the West Virginia Sports Wagering Act officially became law. The act directed the West Virginia Lottery Commission to adopt regulations authorizing four racetrack casinos and the casino at The Greenbrier to offer sports wagering, contingent on federal law changing to permit sports wagering. That federal law has since changed, allowing for wagering to take place at these five West Virginia locations, as well as through online platforms if approved by the Lottery Commission. FanDuel has been granted the rights to operate those interactive sports wagering services at The Greenbrier.
“We are honored to be chosen to provide sports wagering services at The Greenbrier, an iconic resort in the U.S.,” said Matt King, CEO, FanDuel. “As we work towards building out a top sports betting product for the upcoming NFL season, we look forward to bringing West Virginia residents, sports fans, and visitors to The Greenbrier the best interactive sports experience on the market.”
The Greenbrier plans to have an onsite wagering platform inside The Casino Club at The Greenbrier, America’s only private casino, as well as a FanDuel-branded online site and mobile application. Plans are to have the services running by the fall. The exact date will be contingent on when the state of West Virginia’s regulations are put in place.
“We’re excited to be able to offer this service to those guests who are interested,” said Dr. Jill Justice, President, The Greenbrier. “The Casino Club at The Greenbrier has been an attractive destination for our guests and members since its opening, and sports betting provides yet another element to the casino experience.”
The Greenbrier is a historic resort in the mountains of West Virginia that is set on an 11,000-acre property and includes 710 guest rooms and 55 indoor and outdoor activities. The Casino Club at The Greenbrier opened in 2010. Reserved exclusively for resort guests, golf and tennis members, Greenbrier Sporting Club members and resort event participants, the 103,000-square-foot facility includes 320 slot machines and 35 table games inside an elegant smoke-free environment.
FanDuel, based in New York City, was founded in 2009 and has transformed the fantasy sports industry. FanDuel recently announced that, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, it is combining with the U.S. operations of Paddy Power Betfair to capitalize on the sports betting market opportunity in the United States. The transaction is expected to complete in Q3 2018.
