Mike Holton from Virginia Wins $500,000 Grand Prize at FanDuel’s 2017 World Fantasy Football Championship

On Sunday night, FanDuel, a leader in the daily fantasy sports industry, crowned its 2017 World Fantasy Football Champion at the Terranea Resort in Ranchos Palos Verdes, California. Former NFL All-Pro and ESPN Host Marcellus Wiley presented Mike Holton (49), of Vienna, Virginia with the championship belt and a grand prize of $500,000.

Philip Rivers and DeAndre Hopkins were a big part of Holton’s lineup today and he was the only player to select Garrett Celek, who scored a touchdown for the 49ers. The play that catapulted Holton into first place was a fumble recovery for a touchdown by the Rams defense.

“I really enjoyed my three days here at the World Fantasy Football Championship,” said Holton. “I am a part-time player, so my wife and I are going to fly home first class, but other than that, we will put this money towards college tuition for our kids.”

Holton won his entry to the Championships in week 9 of the NFL season. His full lineup for FanDuel’s World Fantasy Football Championship was: Philip Rivers (QB), Todd Gurley II (RB), Giovani Bernard (RB), Keenan Allen (WR), Larry Fitzgerald (WR), DeAndre Hopkins (WR), Garrett Celek (TE), Robbie Gould (K), and Rams (D).

To compete in the 2017 FanDuel World Fantasy Football Championship, players won one of 75 qualifying contests held throughout the football season on www.FanDuel.com. Each qualifying league winner won a trip to Los Angeles that included airfare, transportation, a three-night stay at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA and a minimum prize of $10,000.
